A lot of lovely people have made buddhify possible…
Creator and overall lead | Rohan Gunatillake Rohan came up with the name buddhify while at a meditation retreat over New Year 2011 and realised it was the ideal name for an app he’d been thinking about for a while – and a few months and a *lot* of hard work later here we are. Rohan first got interested in meditation in 2003 at the same time that he started work as a management consultant and while he has spent more time than he can add up at meditation retreats all round the world, he is most passionate about finding new ways for translating the meditation traditions into contemporary urban culture. He is an award winning meditation blogger and associate of Buddhist Geeks with his talk “Disrupting the Awakening Industry” regarded a highlight of their 2011 conference in Los Angeles. When not doing meditation-related projects, Rohan mainly heads up the Edinburgh Festivals Innovation Lab, writes for heraldscotland.com and talks too much, most notably at SXSW and various cultural industries conferences around the world about how arts organisations can do things differently and do them better. Back to buddhify, Rohan was project lead, writer of all the meditations and provided male vocals. He was born and brought up in London and has been living in Glasgow for the last two years. And he is always working on the next thing…so if you would like to be part of what the creative team behind buddhify does next you had better get in touch with Rohan.
App development | Winterwell Associates Daniel and Joe head up Winterwell, a multi-skilled, multi-talented web development consultancy based in Edinburgh.
Visual design | Creative Coop The Creative Coop in Essex are a passionate collective of gifted design & communications specialists who came up with buddhify’s wonderful visual identity.
Consultant teacher | Martin Aylward Leading insight meditation teacher Martin Aylward is based at Le Moulin, a beautiful meditation centre in SW France where he lives with his family. Martin provided guidance and support on the meditation content.
Audio production | Inner Ear Glasgow-based Inner Ear are well known for their media production skills and hosting of the magnificent internet radio station Radio Magnetic. From their team, Dougal and Bobby led on audio recording and editing.
Additional vocals | Lucy Robinson Female vocals were provided by Lucy Robinson, aesthete extraordinaire and wannabe apiarist
Website support | Tom Buckley-Houston Tom met Rohan at a meditation retreat a while back, lives in Bristol and provided additional web development support
Team Mascot | Monkey the dog All mascot duties were marvellously performed by everyone’s favourite wheaten terrier Monkey.
There have also been a number of people who without knowing it have been inspirations for buddhify. These include of course several good and occasionally great meditation teachers who have been influential to the thinking and content but most of all we’d like to mention, Ira Glass, Jad Abumrad, Steve Jobs, Jane McGonigal and Hide&Seek who all in their different ways have inspired the thinking behind the audio, the user-centredness of the design, the look and the playfulness. You rock.
And over and above all that, through the crowd-funding platform Indiegogo 83 people helped raise $4520 towards the app marketing budget. If you were one of these people then thank you very much indeed…
